◾ Drive on the Left

Unlike many countries, in South Africa, you drive on the left-hand side of the road, and the cars are right-hand drive.

◾ Overtaking on National Roads

While this practice is widespread, always ensure it's safe before moving over and returning to the lane.

◾ Four-Way Stop

South Africa uses a 'first come, first serve' system at intersections.
If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the one to the right has right of way. This is different from some countries where the vehicle on the left might go first. At a four-way stop, the vehicle that arrives first proceeds first. If vehicles arrive simultaneously, the vehicle on the right-hand side has the right of way.

In addition to these rules, be aware of local wildlife when driving, especially in rural areas. It's not uncommon to encounter animals on the road, particularly during dawn and dusk. Always drive with caution, obey speed limits, and remain vigilant.
