In most countries, except for the USA, this insurance policy is mandatory and therefore is included in the framework of the CDW insurance as required by the laws of that country.

SLP – Supplemental Liability Protection offered by Alamo and National in the USA
Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP) is insurance that provides the renter with basic liability coverage, at no extra cost, meeting the minimum requirements set by local laws in the state where the vehicle is operated. In addition, it includes excess liability coverage. Combined, these offer third-party liability protection to the renter and any authorized additional drivers, with a total limit of up to $300,000.

This insurance applies to third-party claims for bodily injury (including death) and property damage resulting from accidents that occur during the use or operation of the vehicle under the rental agreement, up to the specified coverage limit.

It does not cover claims from uninsured or underinsured motorists (UM/UIM) for bodily injury or property damage, unless such coverage is mandated by state law. In states where UM/UIM coverage is required, the coverage amount is $300,000 per incident.

This protection is provided under an insurance policy issued by Zurich American Insurance Company.

In car rentals in Canada and the rest of the world, third-party insurance is included in the CDW insurance. (read about CDW)

Additionally, in certain jurisdictions (e.g., South Africa), the coverage proposed to be included in such insurance may contain various limitations prescribed by local law (e.g., coverage account limitations, events that qualify for coverage, etc). Therefore, we recommend appropriate insurance coverage separately or confirm with the Car Supplier, when picking up the car, what additional coverages are available.

A prerequisite for the insurance coverage is that for any damage caused to the car during the rental period, the renter shall immediately notify the local police and the car supplier, and keep documents attesting thereto act according to their instructions.
